Enable Infrastructure Achieve Year 1 Planet Mark Certification
Enable Infrastructure Achieve Year 1 Planet Mark Certification
13 May 2021
“Enable Infrastructure (formerly known as BCM Construction) is thrilled that we have achieved Planet Mark certification. The scheme not only provides our employees, shareholders, clients, local communities and supply chain with confidence in our assurance processes, but it demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon and increasing social value.” – Jenny Peters – Environment & Sustainability Manager – Enable Infrastructure Ltd.
We recognise the responsibility we have to current and future generations to address local and global environment, social and economic issues and we are committed to being a sustainable business, protecting and enhancing the environment throughout everything that we do. Planet Mark is one way in which we show our support and we are excited to continue our Planet Mark journey.
Enable Infrastructure is fully committed to effectively managing and improving our environmental performance and minimising the impacts of our business on the environment. Enable Infrastructure will do this by proactively assessing its impacts throughout project lifespans and through the services offered to clients, through reduction and control of waste, reusing and recycling materials, prevention of pollution, protection of local environmentally sensitive locations, and conserving natural resources.
Companies working in construction have an opportunity to benefit from a sustainable transition. The industry is one of the largest polluters in the UK, and pioneering companies must think environmentally to meet modern demand, working within their own organisations and with their stakeholders and supply chains to create whole-life sustainable construction projects. In a decade of climate action, innovative companies will stand to gain the most as standards and the demands of consumers continue to evolve.
This is Enable Infrastructure ’s first year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
Enable Infrastructure ’s total carbon footprint in the year ending March 2020 was 747 tCO2e. Enable Infrastructure ’s total carbon per employee in the year ending 2020 was 14.7 tCO2e.
If Enable Infrastructure achieves its carbon reduction target, it will reduce the same amount of carbon in the atmosphere as is captured by 46 acres of forest in one year.
Steve Malkin, CEO of Planet Mark had this to say:
“I am thrilled to be celebrating Enable Infrastructure ’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint. The construction industry is ripe for change, not just as a big polluter, but as a space with tremendous innovation and sustainable solutions on offer. Construction companies looking to embrace sustainability have an opportunity to make enormous change and shape the way we live our lives in the future. Forward-thinking companies like Enable Infrastructure understand this, and I’m pleased with the team’s dedication to creating an environmentally friendly future.”
Thank you to Planet Mark for supporting us through this journey and we are looking forward to continuing this very important journey.
